7 p.m. Fred Eaglesmith concert at The Thirsty Frog Restaurant, 600 Main St. Willimantic benefits the First Baptist community Meal Program. Opening for Eaglesmith will be Austin, Texas band The Ginn Sisters. Veteran performer Eaglesmith is scheduled to appear on the Letterman Show in January. $20 tickets available at Fred’s Brickhouse, The LilyPad and Willimantic Food Coop.

| Dec, 16 | Mommy and Me Luncheon | MOMMY & ME LUNCHEONS (IN ENGLISH)
Windham Hospital offers a Mommy and Me Luncheon, a social support network for mothers and their infants (age up to 9 months). The group meets twice a month, the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m, in the Human Resources Classroom. Next meeting dates are December 2nd and December 16th. Women living in the Windham Hospital service area and their children up to age 9 months are welcome to attend. There is a $5 fee which will be waived for anyone with state insurance or receiving assistance from WIC. To register call (860) 456-689 |

Scotland Public Library is hosting a book discussion organized by the Connecticut Humanities at 6:30 p.m. The title of the book we will be discussing is Julie and Julia by Julie Powell. Our guest, Lynn Faria, will lead the discussion. Any participant that would like to attempt a Julia Child recipe to share with the group may call (860) 423-1492. The Bread Box will host an acoustic open mic at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 220 Valley Street Willimantic. Coffee, tea and baked goods are available in the Parish Hall. | Dec, 18 | Poetry Explosion | POETRY EXPLOSION
6 to 9 p.m. at The WindhamArts Collaborative, Main St. Willimantic. The Young Poets are helping Colectivo Mestizal collect toys for Three Kings Day. We are looking for age appropriate, unwrapped gifts for children. Admission is $5 at the door; however, those donating a toy will be admitted for $2.50.

| Dec, 18 | Open Mic night | OPEN MIC IN ASHFORD
An open microphone night will start with a host band, featuring local and guest musicians playing jazz and world fusion at 7 p.m. After that, the microphone will be open. Musicians will be on-hand to accompany you or you may choose to perform solo or with your friends. Coffee, tea, water, soft drinks and snacks will be available for purchase at a reasonable price. These are family friendly, no drug or alcohol events at Ashford Library’s Knowlton Hall, 25 Pompey Hollow Road (Route 44), Ashford. Future dates include Nov. 20 and Dec. 18. 7:30 p.m. First Church of Christ, junction of routes 195 and 89, Mansfield Center. Christmas Carols and the performance of an original Christmas Story by church member and professional storyteller Carolyn Stearns. Donations will be collected for Tercentenary Fund 2010.
