Contra dance beginners lessons start at 7:30 p.m. wit the actual dance at 8 p.m. Event is at the Hampton Congregational Church, 256 Main St. (Route 97), Hampton. Join Jim Gregory with live music by Rainwater. All ages are welcome and dances will be taught. No partner is necessary. Bring soft-soled shoes to dance in, water to drink and a dessert for the break. Windham Community Memorial Hospital offers a Mommy and Me Luncheon, a social support network for mothers and their infants (age up to 9 months). The group meets twice a month — the first and third Wednesday of the month — from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Human Resources Classroom. Women living in the Windham Hospital service area and their children up to age 9 months are welcome to attend. There is a $5 fee that will be waived for anyone with state insurance or receiving assistance from WIC. Call (860) 456-6896 for more information.

The Public and Community Engagement Group of the Center for Continuing Studies at the University of Connecticut offers the first of six public related to community engagement, co-operative economics, education, democratic movements, hip-hop and resistance and more. The event lasts from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The first topic is “From Eco-Systems to Social-Systems: A Systems Approach to Sustainability” with Phoebe Godfrey at WindhamARTS Collaborative, Main Street, Willimantic.
