ECSU seeks food donations for those in need

WILLIMANTIC — In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Eastern Connecticut State University is collecting food donations for those in need.

Volunteers will collect nonperishable food items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations: Bob’s IGA at 422 Windham Road, South Windham, on Saturday; Stop & Shop at 11 E. High St. in East Hampton on Sunday; and Stop & Shop at 2020 Norwich/New London Turnpike in Uncasville on Saturday, Nov. 18, and Sunday, Nov. 19.

Collection boxes have also been placed throughout the Eastern campus in residence halls, classroom buildings and administration buildings.

Donations will be given to the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic and other local food pantries.

The food drive is done in connection with the Day of Giving, Eastern’s annual Thanksgiving dinner for Windham residents.

It is the 11th year for the free event, which falls on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from noon to 2 p.m. in Hurley Hall.

According to the press release, more than 700 guests were served last year during the Day of Giving, a collaboration between Eastern’s Center for Community Engagement, the Office of Institutional Advancement at Eastern and Chartwells, Eastern’s food service provider.

Food is paid for by Chartwells and the ECSU Foundation.
