Class S state champions Yael Garcia-Rodriguez (220 pounds) and Malachi Fowler (195) are seeded second and third respectively in their weight classes at the State Open wrestling championships that begin today at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
Delmazio Despard (113) is seeded fourth for the Whips.
RHAM has a pair of top five seeds in Class M champions Ben Fournier (3rd) and Michael Marques (4th) and Lyman Memorial/Windham Tech’s Cameron Sammarco - who won the M title at 170 - is a No.4 seed.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Matt Fraleigh made one of two foul shots with 4.6 seconds left on Tuesday night that gave RHAM (12-8, 5-2 league) a 58-57 Central Connecticut Conference East Division victory over Enfield in Hebron.
The Raptors will be on the road in the first round of the Division II state tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 7.
Junior Noah Cordone scored a career-high 37 points for E.O. Smith in a 72-63 Central Connecticut Conference East Division loss at Tolland.
Freshman Camden Mazerolle added 10 points for the Panthers (1-19, 0-7 league), who cut a 31-18 halftime deficit down to seven points - 47-40 - entering the fourth quarter.
Cameron Lumia finished with 22 points and Matthew Tybor added 20 for the Eagles (3-16, 2-6), who shot 24-of-33 at the foul line.
