The Manchester Sam’s Club, the first in the state when it opened in 1991, and the Orange store will be closed in two weeks, parent company Walmart announced Thursday.
The decision affects 151 employees in Manchester and 155 in Orange, according to notices to the state Department of Labor.
The two Connecticut locations are among 63 of the members-only stores across the nation to be shuttered.
“After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy,” Sam’s Club tweeted.
Both the Manchester store, at 69 Pavilions Drive near the Buckland mall, and the Orange store on Boston Post Road are to close Jan. 26, which will leave the Sam’s Club in Newington on the Berlin Turnpike as the state’s sole location. Notices to the labor department say hourly employees in Manchester and Orange will be terminated effective March 16 and managerial employees will be terminated on April 13.
